Encouraged To Hold On

“If I can hold on a little longer I’ll be ok.” I kept hearing her say. “I can’t give up now, I got to hold on.” She screamed out in pain. I watched and encouraged her to keep holding on. She looked at me, frightened by all the blood.

My friend had been cutting vegetables when she had accidently cut herself. The cut that we thought was just a little slice, turned out being one that was almost bone deep, and we were waiting for the ambulance to arrive. In the midst of waiting my friend was encouraging herself as well as listening to the encouragement I was offering to her. We both held a bandage over her right hand, trying to put as much pressure as we could on the womb. Eventually the ambulance did arrive. My friend was taken to the hospital. Where she receive stitches, some antibiotics, and was released to go home.

As I recall that story, it makes me think of all the wounds in life that we have received. Wounds caused by hurt and pain, either that we inflicted on ourselves, or that was inflicted by others. It also made me think about how time and healing both coincide with each other and go hand-in-hand.

In the midst of your waiting season, what are you doing? Who are you allowing around you? Are you encouraging yourself? Are you being encouraged by others?

David found himself in a situation in which he had no one else to encourage him so the Bible says that he encouraged himself.  It wasn’t just positive self-talk, but the Bible says that he encouraged himself in the Lord. Sometimes we don’t have people fighting in our corners with or for us , sometimes we don’t even have good friends that will be there to help us when we are wounded. That’s why it’s most important to have a relationship with Christ. There’s times when we will need the encouragement that can only come from Him.

I encourage you to trust in God, during this season of your life. God is a great healer and encourager to the wounded.

I SAMUEL 30:6
And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God
